The very act of establishing AICIS speaks volumes about its potential impact. Individuals with a common vision, far-sighted enough to decide, plan ahead, exploit networks and expertise… This in itself is a recipe for survival!
In order to reach the ultimate goal, which is to mitigate threats and exploit opportunities, first we have to visualize these threats and opportunities in a new way.
There have been teething problems, but arising from AICIS’ development process, has been a clearer identification of the main areas in need of attention.
The impact of AICIS in the long run is likely to be determined by its ability to build bridges between the different stakeholders, especially politicians, educators, businesspersons and local community leaders.
AICIS must continue to establish itself as a champion for Åland, rising above petty conflicts and presenting itself as a trustworthy, competent player, as it delivers services to the local community. Through the continued use of scientific data and knowledge, it can guide Åland down paths which might be considered ‘dangerous’, or paths not previously considered at all. AICIS can and will help Åland to appreciate its strengths, build on them and prepare for the future.
